Our Counselor in Training program is an exhilarating teen leadership program that perfectly blends all the elements of camp life including administrative jobs, maintenance around camp, leading groups, and playing games with the campers.
Our CIT program provides a hands-on, inside look at the life of a camp. Teens CITs learn first-hand how a good leader performs through the requirement of hard work and service. Our goal is to groom CITs into future camp counselors here at Canaan and more importantly to help them become leaders within our communities.
All CITs (new and returning) will be required to attend a Parent/ CIT Meeting, (May 9, 2017 at 6:30 PM) and a one-day training session June 3, 2017 from 8:30 am – 12:00 pm at Camp Canaan where they will be trained to perform each of the jobs/tasks that they’ll be responsible for during their session as a CIT. The additional requirements for returning and new CITs are listed below.
The first step towards becoming a CIT is to complete and submit an application form. You can complete the application form online by clicking the button below.
Once an application has been submitted, parents should register their teen for a minimum of two CIT weeks. Based on your CIT’s age, we have both CIT Day Camp sessions (ages 14-16) and CIT Resident Camp sessions (ages 15-16). Each session has a limited number of spots available – 4-10 for Day Camps and 2 for Resident Camps. Click the button below to register your teen for the CIT sessions that correspond to the ones he/she selected on his/her application. Your teen’s first CIT week acts as a trial session; Canaan reserves the right to determine if the program is the best fit for your CIT.
