SCHOLARSHIPS ARE FULL for summer 2024

THE JIM & AANA LISA WHATLEY SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Jim & Aana Lisa Whatley Scholarship Fund was created to help make summer camp possible for children who would otherwise not be able to experience life on The Island. We believe something amazing happens in the life of a camper who comes to Canaan, and we don’t want anyone to miss out. Funds are raised throughout the year by donations from generous, like-minded people and from our annual Fall Benefit.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM OVERVIEW

We offer campers ages 5-13 scholarships for one week of summer camp in either Junior Day Camp (ages 5-8), Senior Day Camp (ages 9-13), or Resident Camps (Journey (ages 8-9), All Girls Week, Co-ed (ages 10-13) and Legacy (14-15).

If you are interested in applying for a scholarship, we want to make you aware of a few things about our scholarship process:

  • Scholarships are offered for one (1) week of camp per summer per child.
  • Scholarship spots are saved offline. You will receive a code to register your camper. Do not register until you receive an award email.
  • The amount(s) we offer are based on the poverty guidelines, income, and the number of people living in your household.
  • Based on the Federal Poverty Levels (FPL), scholarships will cover either 50%, 60%, or 75% of the total tuition of one week of camp. The remaining portion is your responsibility to cover. (Full retail prices: $339 for Junior Day Camp, $469 for Senior Day Camp, and $869 for Resident Camps)
  • Sibling discounts may be combined with a scholarship.

IMPORTANT DATES / DEADLINES

The scholarship window for Summer 2024 is October 27, 2023, until March 27, 2024 (or while funds last).

Scholarships are awarded weekly. Applications received before 5 PM on Wednesdays will be reviewed the following Thursday, and a response sent out Friday. Once awarded, you will have one (1) week to accept or decline. Failure to respond in one (1) week will result in a forfeiture of scholarship funds, which will be offered to another family.

Applications received after 5 PM on Wednesday will be reviewed the following week.

FINANCIAL COMMITMENT FROM THE PARENT/GUARDIAN

Should you choose to accept your awarded scholarship, you will enter into a financial agreement with Camp Canaan requiring the following:

  • You will have to use a debit/credit card to register. You will need access to a computer and WiFi.
  • A $25 deposit for each child is required at the time of registration, which is subtracted from your remaining balance. Payment options for your balance are available during checkout.
  • All balances are due by Tuesday, May 28, 2024. It is the parent’s responsibility to have sufficient funds available before each installment. Your scholarship may be forfeited if you do not reply to our attempts to notify of declined payments.
