Camp Canaan is the sole occupant of a picture-perfect, 100-acre island in the middle of the Catawba River – or, as we like to say, we’re just off the coast of Rock Hill! Located at 3111 Sand Island Road, Rock Hill, South Carolina 29732, we’re just 25 minutes south of Charlotte, North Carolina and an easy drive from Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Camp Canaan is open year-round! We host nine consecutive weeks of summer camps and host groups for day events and weekend retreats throughout the rest of the year. The adventure never stops!

Absolutely! We love sharing our incredible campus with folks interested in spending a weekend out here or hosting a day event. Connect with us to set up a tour of The Island.

We accept credit and debit cards: VISA, Mastercard, and Discover. Unfortunately, we cannot accept American Express (AMEX).

Yes. Complimentary wifi is available at the Multi-Purpose Building.

Ample parking is available at the Welcome Center. Minimal parking is available at the Multi-Purpose Building. Temporary parking for drop off and pick up of luggage, materials and supplies is available at all other buildings on The Island. Check out our Island Map to see the roads/cart paths on campus.

There is only one way on and off The Island – by bridge. The bridge gate is closed during the day unless we’re expecting folks, and it’s locked at night. Our on-call directors do a final check of The Island every evening.

Additionally:

• Directors live on site
• Select staff and all lifeguards are CPR-certified
• Cameras are strategically placed across campus
• Staff are trained on child abuse prevention
• Staff are never alone with a child

Yes, we partner with a third party caterer to provide meals. Gluten, dairy, and peanut allergies, as well as vegetarian and vegan diets, can be accommodated. Get in touch to discuss the needs of your group.

Your group is welcome to bring drinks and snacks with you. Note, refrigeration options are extremely limited; please plan accordingly. Drinks, snacks, and ice cream are available for sale in the Welcome Center. Water and soft drinks are also available in the vending machine at the pool pavilion.

All of the buildings on The Island are wheelchair accessible, including the Multi-Purpose Building.

Yes! Hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts and more are available in our online store and on site at the Welcome Center.

During retreats, Lost & Found is located at the Welcome Center. We check daily for forgotten items and add them to Lost & Found.

Yes, your personal event coordinator will assist you with retreat planning beforehand, welcome you to The Island on arrival, and be available throughout your stay to assist with catering and meals, transitions between activities, and answer questions.

Unless you plan otherwise with your event coordinator, group gatherings and meals will take place in the Multi-Purpose Building. Please contact your retreat host for pricing details.

The standard set-up in the Multi-Purpose Building features our hand-made rustic farm tables, accommodating a total of 56 people. Choosing to rent tables will extend your capacity to 90 people. Spacious front and back porch areas add additional capacity.

The Multi-Purpose Building has a stage, complimentary WiFi, a warming kitchen, and a whiteboard. A/V and projector equipment is available for rent.

Yes, coffee and tea is available in the Multi-Purpose Building. We provide one pound of coffee with your booking; bring additional hot beverage options as needed.

We have three, modern, climate-controlled cabins that are beautifully-designed with sturdy bunk beds, hardwood floors, large front porches, and indoor bathrooms with showers. The Tulip Poplar and Long Leaf Pine cabins each sleep up to 36 people (18 people per side). The A&J Lodge accommodates 64 people (16 per side x 4 sides) and has spacious indoor common spaces and laundry facilities.

No, groups will need to provide their own bed linens. A sleeping bag and pillow or twin sheets, blanket, and pillow are best for overnight stays.

No, groups will need to provide their own towels. We recommend bringing a bath towel as well as a pool towel if you plan to do any water-based activities.

The needs of your specific retreat may vary from this list, but here’s what we tell our overnight campers to bring to The Island.

• Body/face soap, shampoo, hairbrush, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant
• Clothes, pajamas, underwear, and socks
• Rain jacket and jacket/sweatshirt

• Flip-flops (recommended for showers)
• River shoes (closed toe required)
• Bath towel
• Pool towel
• Flashlight/headlamp with batteries
• Bug Spray
• Sunscreen

Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited. Alcohol can only be served by a licensed bartender following pre-approval by Camp Canaan.

You will have Island Access during your retreat, which includes use of the in-ground stone fire pit, three miles of walking trails with riverside benches, access to our Disc Golf Course, GaGa ball pit, playgrounds, ping pong tables, and cornhole boards.

Camp Canaan has basketball courts, sand volleyball, kickball, and soccer fields. Some sports equipment is available for use or you may bring your own. Sports fields are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Consider renting the picnic pavilion and sports fields in advance to ensure fields are not in use by other groups during your retreat.
