Matt Harper
Executive Director
Matt Harper moved to Rock Hill, SC in 2005 to serve alongside his lifelong friends and former camp colleagues, Nick and Tiffany Wimmer, who founded Camp Canaan. Matt came to The Island with years of camp leadership experience and a dedication to creating a positive and transformative impact on the lives of children, youth, and families through outdoor adventure, education, and spiritual development.
In the early years, Matt, Nick, and Tiffany ran programming on a small scale while working full-time jobs on the mainland. In 2010, Matt joined the Camp Canaan Crew in a full-time capacity as Program Director, and in 2018 took the reins as Executive Director. Matt is on fire about Camp Canaan’s mission to provide a safe, fun, and nurturing environment where campers can grow in their faith, confidence, character, and skills, and where staff can develop their professional and personal potential. He is always looking for new and innovative ways to enhance the quality and sustainability of Camp Canaan programs and services, and to reach more people with our message of hope and love.
Matt graduated from Palm Beach Atlantic University with a degree in Communications and a minor in Biblical Studies. Together with his wife, Melissa, they have two wonderful boys, Miles and Liam, who love attending camp every summer.
